THE PETRIFIED PLANET. New York: Twayne Publishers, 1952. Octavo, cloth. First edition. Partially original anthology, anonymously edited by Pratt, collecting three short novels based on the hypothetical description (extrapolated by introducer Dr. John D. Clark) of a planet with silicone based life forms: "The Long View" by Pratt (published in STARTLING STORIES, December 1952), "Uller Uprising" by H. Beam Piper (reprinted in SPACE SCIENCE FICTION as a two-part serial February - March 1953) and "Daughters of Earth" by Judith Merril (later collected in her short story collection DAUGHTERS OF EARTH [1968]). One of the Twayne triplets series. Two tiny spots to top edge of text block, a fine copy in very good dust jacket with light wear at top edge of spine panel and faint spot and some light dust soiling to rear panel. This copy belonged to Genevieve and Paul Linebarger (Cordwainer Smith) and has their ownership stamp on the front free endpaper. An attractive copy with a pleasant association. (#162503).
