TYPED LETTER SIGNED (TLS). 1 page, dated 16 August 1957, to "Dear Dick Taylor" [Richard Taylor], signed "Derleth." On Arkham House half-size letter stationery with Frank Upatel illustration of moonlit scene. Derleth provides detailed specifications for the dust jacket for THE MASK OF CTHULHU, published by Arkham House in 1958 with a jacket designed by Taylor. On the verso of Derleth's letter Taylor has drawn preliminary sketches of two "frog-like caricatures of a human being ... bulging eyes ... batrachian mouth ..." Richard Taylor (1902–1970), Canadian-born artist, is best known for his cartoons published in THE NEW YORKER. He designed five book jackets for Arkham House. Very good. Nice content. (#162851).
