Early military SF for young adults. An account of mankind's first venture into space, set during the Cold War. The United States constructs a space station from which the first mission to the Moon will be launched, and which is armed with missiles to protect Earth from communist aggression. The sequel, also featuring Joe Kenmore, is SPACE TUG (1953). One of several books in Shasta's short-lived "Shasta Junior" series and the first book in the "To the Stars" series. A fine copy in nearly fine dust jacket with light wear at spine ends and corner tips. Jacket illustration by L. Heilbron. A nice association copy. (#163539).
