Nouvelle edition. A popular music instruction book which had many editions between 1790 and 1812, as well as posthumous editions into at least the 1850s. Jean-Joseph Rodolphe, or Johann Joseph Rudolph (1730-1812), French horn player, violinist, composer, was born in Strasbourg on 14 October 1730, He studied French horn and violin under his father Theodor Peter Rudolph. He spent his later career in Paris composing opera, ballets, pieces for French horn, and duets for violins. In addition to publishing his two instruction books, Rodolphe taught composition at École Royal de Chant and singing scales at the Paris Conservatoire. Recent three-quarter marbled boards and laid paper, new paper label, new green laid paper endpapers. Title leaf a bit tanned, second leaf has professionally mended closed tear, a very good copy.
