She and her companion, Trevor Bentley, encounter the spirit of Naurus who transports them back to ancient Egypt so they can witness firsthand the events that led up to the death of his daughter, Aphaka, who committed suicide rather than be forced into marriage with Honoses, a cruel prince. Naurus seeks Muriel's aid in freeing Aphaka's spirit so that she can join Amon, her true love, in the afterlife. This is accomplished by burning the mummy of Aphaka.
