Sights and scenes in California for tourists. Compliments of the Passenger Department, Union Pacific System, Omaha, Neb. Fifth edition. Omaha, Neb. Union Pacific System, [1893]. 21.4 cm, pp. [1-4] 5-38 [39-40], flyleaves at front and rear, 7 illustrations, 1 large folded map, original illustrated white wrappers, stapled. Fifth edition. Includes a five-page description of Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa and Calaveras groves of big trees. Five of the seven illustrations depict scenes in Yosemite Valley and Mariposa big tree grove. The brochure claims "Lake Tahoe is the most famous place of resort in California, always excepting Yosemite" (p. 21). This is a bold claim, considering the Hotel Del Monte in Monterey and the resorts in southern California. Not in Currey and Kruska. Wrappers dusty, railroad agent's stamp on front cover and front flyleaf, a very good copy. (#164900).
