(#164905) Tourist map of the eastern High Sierra from Sierraville, California, south to Olancha, California [title supplied]. HAYDEN MAP CO.
Tourist map of the eastern High Sierra from Sierraville, California, south to Olancha, California [title supplied].

Tourist map of the eastern High Sierra from Sierraville, California, south to Olancha, California [title supplied]. Glendale, Cal. Hayden Map Co. Publishers, n.d. [copyright 1933]. Single sheet, 61 x 24 cm, printed on both sides in blue and black. No map title. Recto has a map from Sierraville south to Mono Lake, verso has a map from Mono Lake south to Olancha, both surrounded by advertisements for local businesses. A highly detailed map that shows points of interest, roads, trails, and tourist services along the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada, including resorts, camps and pack stations. CU-B catalogues this map under the supplied title: "[Reno to Lone Pine: via Lake Tahoe, Bridgeport, Mono Lake, Bishop]." (C and CU-B apparently have a later version of this map copyright 1939 for which they supply the title: "[Touring map of the High Sierra : California and Nevada]") Mapping the eastern High Sierra was a specialty of the Hayden Map Co. which offered free tourist maps with fishing and hunting data. They prepared several other maps of the region, including "Mammoth Lakes, Mono County, Cal." (copyright 1934) "Compliments Lake Mary Store, Mammoth Lakes, P. O. Groceries, fishing tackle, boats, gas and oil. Prices right" (copy at CLU), "Lake Tahoe-Reno vacation wonderland" (copyright 1938) (copies at C and CU-B), "Town of Bridgeport, Mono County, California" (copyright 1939) (copy at NvU), "Mono County greets you, fisherman's paradise, reached via Bishop, Lee Vining, or Bridgeport" (copyright 1940) (copy at OrU [and maybe CtY]), and "Inyo County, Lone Pine - Independence" (1955) (no copies located; there probably is an earlier version of this map). A fine copy. This appears to be Hayden's first map of eastern Sierra Nevada. (#164905).
