MALLET COMPOUND S. P. FREIGHT ENGINE SIERRA GRADE. Real photo post card (RPPC). San Francisco: California Sales Co., Pub., n.d. Postmarked Sparks, 5 May 1910. Addressed to Miss Hazel Snaith in Carson City, Nevada. Sparks, Nevada, was a railroad town founded in 1904 and incorporated in 1905, the eastern terminus of the Southern Pacific's Sierra Division. A photograph of No. 4007, a cab forward 2-8-8-2 Mallet-Consolidation compound expansion locomotive which entered service in 1910 (the year this card was written) to move freight over the Sierra Nevada. Light wear at edges, two small creases to lower left corner, partial postmark to image background, good. Sharp image. (#165025).
