[Yosemite High Sierra] Yosemite National Park, California, Tuolumne Meadows, in the high Sierra, with view of the Cathedral Range. DANA CLARK MORGENSON.

[Yosemite High Sierra] Yosemite National Park, California, Tuolumne Meadows, in the high Sierra, with view of the Cathedral Range. Los Angeles, Calif. Western Publishing & Novelty Co., n.d. Stock number 386. Color postcard printed by the Curteichcolor process from color transparencies. "... practical methods of taking color photographs in Yosemite were not available until the 1930s. Since then advertisers of the valley have profitably exploited the possibilities of color, especially on postcards and in travel books, and tourists have taken home many a colorful memento of the Park. Verisimilitude is what tourists want most of all, and modern color films are extremely adept at duplicating eyesight. A good example is the work of Dana Morgenson. In REMEMBERING YOSEMITE (Yosemite Park and Curry Company, 1980), the Park is accurately rendered and yet also appears romantic and inviting ... Until his death in 1980 Morgenson was a phenomenally successful leader of camera walks for the Yosemite Park and Curry Company. He was gifted with speech as colorful as his pictures and taught his followers as much about Sierra flora and fauna as he did about photography. Heir of the studio photographers, he wanted to entice the public to the Park and provide them with souvenirs of their stay." - Robertson, David, West of Eden: A History of the Art and Literature of Yosemite, p. 155. Fine. (#165035).
