Two photographs, on the recto and verso of a gray card mount, each with a handwritten caption. A fine photograph of a lumber camp in the Coast Range of Northern California, circa late 1880s to early 1890s. Humboldt County contains over forty percent of all remaining old growth Coast Redwood forests, much of which is privately owned and threatened by logging. As for Blue Lake, "in 1861, the 13-acre Blue Lake was formed from flooding of the north fork of Mad River ... As the river changed course in the 1920s, the lake disappeared to become what today is a small pond on private property" (Wikipedia). Fine. Rare. (#165054).
