TALES OF THE MASQUE. Chicago: A. C. McClurg & Company. London: Lawrence and Bullen, 1895. Octavo, pp. [1-8] [1-3] 4-207 [208: blank] [1-7: ads] [8: blank] [note: first leaf is a blank], title page printed in red and black, original maroon cloth, spine panel stamped in gold, t.e.g., other edges untrimmed. First edition, U.S. issue. McClurg's edition is made up from Lawrence and Bullen UK sheets with new conjugate half title and title leaves. The author's second collection of Cornish literary fables including "Ego Speaks," viewpoint of a murdered man's spirit, and "The Sorcery of the Forest," atavism in the jungle. Bleiler (1978), p. 155. Reginald 11251. Hubin (1994), p. 632. Wolff 5484 (recording a UK issue). Early owner's signature dated 1895 on the front free endpaper. Cloth a bit spotted and faded, a very good copy with clean text block. An uncommon book. (#113661).
