In 1904 Congress appropriated $3,000 for a field investigation of park boundaries. The Interior Secretary appointed the Yosemite Park Commission consisting of H. M. Chittenden, Robert B. Most of the commission's recommendations were followed when Congress passed legislation in 1905 to adjust the park's boundaries.
