The Yo-Semite almanac adapted to California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Utah, 1867. [San Francisco: Alta California General Printing House], Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1866. 18.8x15.3 cm, pp. [1] 2-4 [5] 6-60 [note: page number on page 25 is printed upside down; page 60 is mis-numbered "50"], advertising leaf printed in red inserted between pages 56 and 57, 15 illustrations, tables, 2 maps, original pictorial white wrappers printed in light blue and black, sewn. First edition. Some descriptive text on Yosemite appears in the almanac, as well as a "Table of Altitudes at Yo-Semite Valley" on page 13. There are a number of advertisements of California merchants whose activities were related wholly or in part to the Yosemite and Big Tree tourist industry, including C. E. Watkins, Sperry & Perry, Hutchings, Lawrence & Houseworth, and others. The front cover has a view of Vernal Fall from a photograph by C. E. Watkins. The interior illustrations first appeared in Hutchings' California Magazine and two depict scenes in Yosemite Valley. Two maps are present, one titled "Map of the Yosemite Valley, Showing the Principal Waterfalls, Mountains, Etc.," the other showing routes to the Valley. The cover title reads: "Hutchings' Yo-Semite Almanac for the Whole Pacific Coast for 1867." The almanac was prepared for distribution by western news agents, booksellers, and stationers and their imprints appear at the base of the front cover. Presumably many variations are possible; five have been recorded as follows: (1) "Published by A. Gensoul, Pacific Map Depot, 511 Montgomery St." (2) "Published by W. E. Loomis, Periodical and Stationery Depot, S. E. Corner Sansome and Washington Sts., San Francisco." (3) "Published by W. G. Mills, Dealer in Clothing, Hardware, Stationery, Groceries, &c. Havilah, Kern Co., Cal." (4) "Published by A. Roman & Co. Booksellers, Publishers and Importers, Nos. 417 & 419 Montgomery Street, San Francisco." (5) "Published by W. Urick, Bookseller, Newsman, Insurance Agent, &c. Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne County, Cal." This copy has the Loomis imprint. Currey and Kruska 165. Several stains on front cover, spine panel mostly perished, a good copy. (#166052).
