This paper was read before the Rhode Island Historical Society on December 17, 1872, and was published by Lester, a prominent Providence lawyer, at the request of friends. The narrative of his trip to Yosemite Valley in the summer of 1872 included in his The Atlantic to the Pacific (1873) is his more valuable contribution to Yosemite literature.
