Enlarged edition. Prints an enlarged version of the ode, "Yo Semite" (first published separately in 1871) and eight other poems. The four full page woodcut illustrations depict Yosemite Valley scenes. Jean Bruce Washburn (1838-1904), Yosemite's resident poetess, lived at Wawona. Her poetry was mainly rural or classical in theme. "Yo Semite" is a lengthy ode based upon Yosemite Indian legends. A biographical sketch of the author appears in Shirley Sargent, Pioneers in Petticoats: Yosemite's Early Women 1856-1900 (Los Angeles: Trans-Anglo Books, [1966]), pp. 31-32. Currey and Kruska 389.
