Third printing of the first edition. In 1933 the Sierra Club Committee on Mountain Records began collecting climbing records for High Sierra peaks. Between 1937 and 1951 initial data was published as a series of eight articles in the Sierra Club Bulletin, and a preliminary book version, A Climber's Guide to the High Sierra Parts I-VI ... edited by David R. Brower, was issued in 1949. Substantially enlarged, this 1954 published edition became the standard High Sierra climbing guide. A second edition, incorporating minor revisions, was published in 1965. Records of hundreds of new climbing routes established after 1965 resulted in a complete revision of the projected third edition which was published in two volumes -- one describing nontechnical ascents, the other emphasizing technical climbs.
