(#166218) Geologic history of the Yosemite Valley by François E. Matthes. FRANÇOIS EMILE MATTHES.

Geologic history of the Yosemite Valley by François E. Matthes. Washington: United States Government Printing Office, 1930. 29x23 cm (large octavo), pp. [i-ii] iii-vi 1-137 [138: blank], double columns, 46 plates, 38 figures in the text, 6 maps (some folded), original buff wrappers printed in black. First edition. United States Department of the Interior, Geological Survey, Professional Paper 160. In his presentation of this paper based on extensive study of the geology of the central Sierra Nevada, Matthes attempted "to set forth these facts and interpretations in language intelligible to the general reader as well as to the scientist." This effort produced the classic study of the geological structure of the Yosemite region which geologist Fritiof Fryxell, co-worker and friend of Matthes, termed "one of the great classics of geological literature and a well-nigh inexhaustible source of information on the subject." Tiny chip from lower front corner tip, a fine copy. Superb condition for this book. (#166218).
