Frémont by Frederick Samuel Dellenbaugh (1853–1935), writer, artist, explorer, who served as artist and assistant topographer with John Wesley Powell's second expedition down the Colorado River, 1871 and 1872 (see Dellenbaugh's Romance of the Colorado River [New York and London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1902] and his classic account of Powell's second (and major) Colorado River expedition, A Canyon Voyage: the Narrative of the Second Powell Expedition Down the Green-Colorado River from Wyoming, and the Explorations on Land, in the Years 1871 and 1872 [New York and London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1908]). He later joined the 1899 Harriman Alaska Expedition financed by railroad magnate E. H. Harriman. He served as librarian of the American Geographical Society (1909–1911).
