A well-illustrated promotional booklet advertising California's popular scenic attractions and tours, with emphasis on Southern California. Includes Henery's trip to Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees. Brief travelogues spiced with early twentieth-century humor of the traveling salesman variety. "'Be sure and take the Big Tree Trip on your way out of the valley,' says a man I met in camp. 'I came in that way. The folders say it's great.' 'Why do you take the folder's word for it when you went over the trip yourself?' says I. 'Well,' says he, 'I met [a] blonde on the stage and I had to read up on the folder when the trip was over to find out what I should have seen.' We took the man's advice and started one morning on the big tree trip" (p. 11). Dwight F. McKinney, Los Angeles journalist, editor and publisher, was the director of the Wayside Press which published THE DAILY DOINGS GUIDE AND THEATRE DIRECTORY. (The Wayside Press Building is an historic architectural site in Los Angeles.) He is also noted for co-authoring "The Lid Off Los Angeles," a six-part series that began 11 November 1939 in LIBERTY MAGAZINE about the Harry Raymond bombing and the reform movement of Clifford E. Clinton which involved Mayor Frank Shaw and the mob. The series made an enormous impact in its day. Mild crease at lower fore-edge of front cover, mild rubbing to overlapping edges, a very good copy.
