Yosemite and the Mariposa Big Trees[.] Yosemite Transportation System operated by Yosemite Park and Curry Co. [cover title]. [Yosemite National Park, California: Yosemite Park and Curry Co., 1927.]. 23 x 20 cm, folded to 23 x 10 cm, pp. [1] 2-7 [8-9] 10-15 [16], 14 illustrations, 3 maps, printed in double columns, self wrappers, stapled. Advertising brochure, printed in orange, brown and black, promoting guest services, principally the auto and saddle trips offered by Y. T. S. Pages 14-15 provide "services and rates for hotels, lodges and camps in the Yosemite National Park" that "are in effect for the 1927 season," including Yosemite's new hotel, the Ahwahnee, which "will be ready for occupancy during the summer of 1927." The maps are a two-page birdseye view, "Gateways to Yosemite National Park, showing the routes of the Yosemite Transportation System" with smaller inset map of California showing highway and railroad routes, and a larger map of California showing "railroad routes" and "auto routes." The "gateways" map (signed Della Taylor) was drawn by American artist Della Taylor Hoss (1900-1997), who lived in Yosemite Valley from 1928 until 1942 with her husband, Herman Hoss, a Federal Magistrate and the treasurer of Yosemite Park and Curry Company. Della drew several pictorial posters and maps of Yosemite and illustrated Mary Curry Tresidder’s Trees of Yosemite (1932) with thirty-four Art Deco-style linoleum block prints of trees and cones. Bancroft Library, Farquhar Papers withdrawn stamp on the front cover. A fine copy. (#166533).
