(#166558) Yosemite in the 1930s a remembrance. FERNANDO PEÑALOSA.

Yosemite in the 1930s a remembrance. [Rancho Palos Verdes, CA]: Quaking Aspen Books, 2002. 20.8x13.5 cm, pp. [i-ii: blank] [iii-iv] v [vi] vii [viii] ix [x] xi [xii] [1] 2-219 [220: blank], illustrations, pictorial wrappers. First edition. Affectionate, pleasant memoirs of Yosemite visits during the Depression years, an era of decreased visitation and major construction and improvement of the Park's infrastructure. "I remember my first trips to Yosemite in 1930, 1932 and 1933 only vaguely. The first visit I remember vividly was during the summer of 1934, when I was nine, and my mother and I camped in Camp 14 (now Upper Pines Campground) for three months. That lengthy stay formed the basis of my first impressions and of my love for the Park. Much of the material and inspiration for this book is derived primarily from memories of this stay, as well as one-month stays in the summers of 1938 and 1939 in the Valley and Tuolumne Meadows, and shorter stays in 1941, 1942 and later years" (preface, p. xi). Peñalosa's memoir is supplemented by his research of the Park's history and period photographs. "X" (remainder mark?) on bottom edge of text block, a very good copy. (#166558).
