(#166592) The eleven eaglets of the West[.] By Paul Fountain. PAUL FOUNTAIN.

The eleven eaglets of the West[.] By Paul Fountain. London: John Murray, Albemarle Street, 1905. 22x14.2 cm, pp. [i-ii: blank] [iii-vi] vii-x [xi-xii] [1] 2-362 [363-364: blank], original decorated green cloth, front panel stamped in black, spine panel stamped in black and gold, all edges untrimmed. First edition. The last of the author's three books on North America. The eleven eaglets refer to America's eleven western states: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Nevada. Fountain's trip to Yosemite Valley by horseback is described with melodramatic flair on pages 17-31. As for Nevada, "prevailing myths occasionally creep into the narrative" (Paher 623). Tear in cloth at lower spine end repaired, a very good copy. (#166592).
