First edition. "First volume" at head of title, but no further volumes were published. This work, intended as a "useful guide to the tourist, and a storehouse of facts for the resident," was based upon Turrill's personal travel notes as well as "such information, gleaned from standard sources, as the size of the work would permit." Includes detailed descriptions of the North and South Calaveras sequoia groves, pages [95]-118, the Big Oak Flat route to Yosemite, pages [168]-97, and Yosemite Valley, pages [199]-228. The appendix provides a summary of routes to Yosemite. The two maps are "Map of Yosemite Valley" (page 198), showing points of interest, location of hotels, and trails, and "Map of Railroads & Stage Routes to Yosemite" (page 232), both engraved by Britton, Rey & Co., San Francisco.
