First edition. While chief of the educational division of the National Park Service Robert Sterling Yard (1861-1945) wrote The Book of the National Parks, published in 1919. Sierra Nevada content includes "Yosemite the Incomparable," pp. 36-68, a general description, with notes on fauna, flora, geology, history, accommodations, and transportation, and "The proposed Roosevelt National Park," pages 69-92, that provided enthusiastic descriptions of Tehipite Valley, Kings Canyon, and other outstanding scenic features in the proposed Sequoia expansion area. Just a bit of sunning to spine panel, a very good copy. (#166633).
