IN THE ADIRONDACK MOUNTAINS. "AMERICA'S GREATEST RAILROAD." NEW YORK CENTRAL & HUDSON RIVER R. R. PRICE, 10 CENTS. COPYRIGHT, 1898, BY GEORGE H. DANIELS, GENERAL PASSENGER AGENT [cover title]. [Buffalo, New York: The Matthews-Northrup Co., Complete Art-Printing Works], n.d. [1898]. 20.5x10.5 cm, pp. [1-2] 3-64, profusely illustrated, 3 maps, one in the text, the two others inserted, folded maps, original pictorial white wrappers printed in red, olive green and black, stapled. "'Four-track Series,' no. 6" at head of title. An elaborate brochure advertising tourist destinations in the Adirondacks reached by the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad with emphasis on destinations north of Utica, New York, with route times, maps, and contact information. The two folding maps are "New York Central Lines," 20.5 x 41.5 cm (8 x 16 1/4 inches) and the very detailed "New York Central & Hudson River Railroad. Adirondack Division," 40x60 cm (15 3/4 x 23 1/2 inches). This brochure was frequently updated and published between 1893 and the early 1900s. Plum 1222 (recording an 1895 edition). Not in Cole. Wrappers worn, small chip from upper fore-edge corner of rear cover, partial split along spine fold, some old damp staining which has blurred the type on some pages, rust around staples; center leaf loose, a good copy. Nevertheless, aside from two short closed tears along folds, the larger map is in excellent condition, the smaller map is fine. These promotional brochures are now quite uncommon. (#166681).
