The Ruby was one of the richest drift mines in Sierra County's Alleghany District. Total yield was $1 million plus. Accompanied by a broadside, "Ruby Drift Gravel Mine," 26.8x20.8 cm, with summary of location, developments, expected profits and title, signed company president Hamilton Smith, Jr. and the company's secretary, dated January 1880.
