A catalogue published on the occasion of the exhibition "Carleton Watkins: The Stanford Albums" held at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, April 24 -- August 17, 2014. The Stanford albums, a set of three volumes comprising 156 albumen prints (18x22 mammoth plates) of Yosemite, the Pacific Coast and the Columbia River, were commissioned by Milton S. and Mary "Mollie" Latham. They were given to Stanford University by Timothy Hopkins, one of its original trustees. In the 1980s the photographs were removed from their bindings, matted and preserved in custom-built archival boxes housed in the Department of Special Collections in the Cecil H. Green Library, Stanford University. In addition to the photographs selected for the exhibition, the catalogue includes notes and essays about them, as well as a fully illustrated catalogue of all the mammoth plates originally housed in the three albums. A fine copy without dust jacket as issued. (#166954).
