What to do and see in "Giant Forest" in Sequoia National Park ... [caption title]. N.p., n.d. [Circa 1940-1941.]. Single sheet, 31.8x20.2 cm (12 1/2 x 8 inches), printed on both sides. 1 map. First edition. At head of title: "United States Department of the Interior / National Park Service / Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, California / J. A. Krug, Secretary of the Interior Newton B. Drury, Director." A leaflet signed in type "Eivind T. Scoyen, Superintendent," that describes points of interest in the Giant Forest region "to serve as a check list for planning your visit, whether for a few hours or for several days ..." Verso is a map "Points of Interest Map of Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park California. Drawn in the Map Division of the Automobile Club of California 2601 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles ..." (map number 1991). In 1940, General Grant National Park, created in 1890, was expanded and renamed Kings Canyon National Park. Eivind T. Scoyen was Superintendent of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks from 1 January 1939 to 15 July 1941. This is the earliest version of a leaflet reprinted several times, apparently as late as the 1960s when Stewart Lee Udall (1920-2010) served as Secretary of the Interior (1961-1969). Some tanning to recto, old folds, a very good copy. (#167566).
