(#167605) Memories of El Portal by James Law. JAMES LAW.

Memories of El Portal by James Law. N.p. [Mariposa, California?]: Mariposa Heritage Press, [1993]. 28x21.8 cm, pp. [i-iii] iv-vii [viii] [1-2] 3-123 [124-128: blank], many illustrations, 2 maps on inside covers, original pictorial wrappers, perfect bound. First edition. A first person account El Portal, the Gateway to Yosemite Valley in the Merced River Canyon, by 91-year old Jim Law, who arrived there in 1907. An association copy with signed inscription by Law to Al Rose on the title page: "Aug 26, 1993 / To Al. Rose / James Law." Al Rose collected and preserved photographs and documents from the files of the YVRR. Much of the content of Trains to Yosemite by Jack A. Burgess (Berkeley and Wilton, California: Signature Press, [2004]) uses material from the Rose collection. Law and Hank Johnston collaborated on Railroads of the Yosemite Valley ([Long Beach, California]: Johnston-Howe Publications, [1963]). Some underlining with yellow highlighter, a few pages loose from the "perfect" binding, several mild stains, a good copy -- obviously read by the gifted recipient. (#167605).
