SOUTHERN PACIFIC CLUB'S WINTER OUTING LAKE TAHOE FEBRUARY 25TH - 26TH FOR THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE [cover title]. N.p. [San Francisco]: Southern Pacific Club, [1928]. Single sheet, 20x26.5 cm, folded to make 4 panels, printed in lavender, yellow and black. 1 illustration. First edition. The program for the first of the club's Winter Outings held in the Truckee Basin at Tahoe Tavern (by then owned by the Southern Pacific Company and open year round). The Southern Pacific began promoting winter sports and direct rail service to Truckee and vicinity in the 1920s. They operated the "Snowball Express," a party train that conveyed hundreds (sometimes thousands) of tourists to Truckee so they could enjoy the annual winter carnival the town first established in 1895 and the "Tahoe Tavern Winter Sports Grounds." "Every weekend from early February into March, fun-loving visitors could spend the day sledding, ice skating, and tobogganing before Saturday night dancing and saloon-hoping in Truckee's business district" (McLaughlin). Old vertical mailing fold, a very good copy. Accompanied by the Southern Pacific Club's SONG CARD for the 1928 Winter Outing, an enclosure rarely found with the program. (#167639).
