Six cyanotypes of Yosemite National Park. N.p., n.d. [Circa 1905.]. Six stunning cyanotypes of Yosemite National Park, all measuring 8 1/2 x 5 inches in height or width. The six prints are captioned in ink on the bottom borders: "1276. Yosemite Valley from the Big Oak Flat Road," "1234. View Up Yosemite Valley from Old Inspiration Point," "1229. El Capitan from Below the Sentinel," "1231. The Leaning Tower," "1274. In Little Yosemite Valley looking Up," and "1275. Half Dome from Little Yosemite Valley." Willis Wilson Vail (1868-1951), a civil engineer, was also an accomplished photographer, photographed many of the engineering projects he worked on. Throughout his life he photographed construction and mining projects; collections of his glass slides are housed at Radford University in Virginia and at the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park. According to the University of Mississippi Libraries website: Vail was "unknown until his glass plate images were discovered in 1970." The images of Yosemite were taken circa 1905. Very light toning to margins of photographic paper, images fine. Professionally matted; enclosed in a custom quarter leather clamshell box with leather spine label. (#167898).
