Draft development concept plan[:] Giant Forest/Lodgepole area of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks[.] United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service. [Denver, Colorado: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1977.]. 26.8x20.5 cm, pp. [1-6] 1-53 [54: blank], 3 illustrations, 13 maps and plans, some folded, white wrappers printed in brown and black, side stapled. First edition. Proposes a ten-year redistribution of facilities within the Giant Forest/Lodgepole area, which comprises about 30,000 acres. The main problem to be solved is development within the sequoia grove: "It has been apparent that neither the interest of species preservation nor the interests of the visitors are best served by locating development in Giant Forest." The plan calls for conversion of Giant Forest to a day-use area over a ten-year span, redesigning the campgrounds at Lodgepole, development of Clover Creek for visitor lodging and concessionaire employee housing, housing for NPS employees at Lodgepole, and a sewage plant at Clover Creek. The plan is the result of several years' planning and conforms to the 1971 Master Plan. Wrappers tanned at edges, a very good copy. (#167957).
