[Yosemite] Eight stereo views from Thomas Houseworth & Co.’s "Yo-Semite Valley" series, circa 1870s. Albumen prints. San Francisco: Thomas Houseworth & Co., n.d. [Circa 1872-1877]. Dome top images, each measuring approximately 8x7.8 cm (3 1/8 x 3 1/16 inches) mounted on cards with orange fronts and unprinted purple backs. The imprint on the face of each of these stereo views gives Houseworth's address as "No. 9 Montgomery St. (under Lick House), S. F." According to Palmquist, Houseworth moved to the No. 9 Montgomery address around 1872, after Lawrence left the company, and remained there until 1877 when he was evicted due to a financial downturn. The San Francisco firm of Thomas Houseworth & Co. published many photographic views of Yosemite taken by Houseworth, Weed, Muybridge and other early photographers of the region. For a detailed account of Houseworth's photographic enterprises, see Peter E.
