Title and stock number (145) in the negative strip along the bottom edge. Verso of mount has photographer's ad: "[rule] / J. B. BLANCHARD & CO., / Photographers. / [rule] / PORTRAIT, VIEWING AND COMMERCIAL / PHOTOGRAPHY / IN ALL ITS BRANCHES / Headquarters for Mounted and Unmounted Views / 513 N. Main St., Los Angeles, Cal. / [Opp. Pico House.] / [rule]." Photograph shows a wagon and occupants posed in the tunnel cut through "Wawona," a famous giant Sequoia in the Mariposa Grove. James B. Blanchard was active in Los Angeles, 1890-1902. His address 1892-1897 was 513 N. Main St. and he operated as Plaza Gallery or Galeria de la Plaza in 1896. The Bancroft Library has fourteen of his large albumen photographs of Yosemite National Park, images 19x24 cm, mounts 21x25 cm. Blanchard's photographs of Yosemite are uncommon. Mautz, p. 105.
