This address appears as the introduction to the Manuscript Edition of John Muir's complete writings. This offprint of Badè's address was probably issued to promote sales of Muir's books. Page [8], headed "John Muir 'The Thoreau of the Far West,'" prints appreciations of Muir by James Bryce, David Starr Jordan, Robert Underwood Johnson, and others. Badè, a professor of Old Testament literature and Semitic languages at Pacific Theological Seminary, was an enthusiastic mountaineer, editor of the Sierra Club Bulletin between 1911 and 1921, and literary executor of the Muir estate. He wrote the first book-length biography of Muir. Margins trimmed, glued into purple wrappers not original to the publication, a very good copy. (#168480).
