First edition. A narrative of a five week journey through the central Sierra Nevada in August and September 1882. The party of four visited the Mariposa Grove and then entered Yosemite Valley by way of the Wawona road. After a few days in the valley they left for Tenaya Lake with John L. Murphy, an early guide who kept a cabin at the lake. From the lake the party traveled to Soda Springs in Tuolumne Meadows where they were to meet John B. Lembert, a pioneer resident (see item 43), who was to provide them with directions to the Tioga mines. Missing Lembert, the party traveled on to Lundy. Following an inspection of the mines at Lundy, they continued on to Mono Lake. The party reentered the High Sierra by way of Bloody Canyon. After visiting the Great Sierra mine on Tioga Hill, they returned to Yosemite Valley via Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, and the Eagle Point Trail. Currey and Kruska 284. Some insect tracking to cloth on front panel, else a fine copy. (#168505).
