A few picturesque scenes on the Big Oak Flat and Calaveras big trees route to Yo Semite Valley. [San Francisco: Press of The Hicks-Judd Co.], n.d. [circa 1897]. 12.5 cm, pp. [1-24] (not paginated), 23 illustrations (including cover illustration), 1 map. Cover title. self wrappers, stapled. First edition. An illustrated description of two northern routes to Yosemite Valley. Text on page [1] commences: "Ho! for the Yo Semite Valley. Twenty miles nearer by rail. And almost before the ink that prints this is dry the Sierra Railway will be completed to Chinese Camp, thirty miles nearer ..." The railroad reached Chinese Camp in 1897, the assumed printing date of this pamphlet. It was probably prepared by James Mason Hutchings, who promotes his books on page [2] and his ticket agency on covers three and four. Similar but later, booklets were issued by the D. A. Lumsden & Company (Ho! for Yo Semite Valley ... ) and the Big Oak Flat and Yosemite Stage Company (Ho! for Yosemite Valley ... ). Currey and Kruska 110. A very good copy. (#168518).
