The author's visit to Yosemite Valley is enthusiastically described on pages 38-60 of volume one (several pages are devoted to Hutchings' hotel and hospitality; no mention of John Muir). In this copy, the frontispiece in volume one, captioned "Battak Warriors at War with the Dutch," is duplicated in volume two (as per other copies?). W. H. Smith & Sons subscription library labels on front paste-downs of both volumes. Cloth worn at edges, considerably at spine ends and corners, inner hinges of volume one weak, inner hinges of volume two cracked, a reading copy. (#168600).
