The 3 1/4 x 4 inch slides are all identically mounted, with mattes bearing the imprint: "ISSUED BY PASSENGER DEPARTMENT / SOUTHERN PACIFIC CO. SAN FRANCISCO, CAL. / MANUFACTURED BY SUNSET PHOTO ENGRAVING CO." The mattes are cream colored as is the paper edging tape binding them. Each image is captioned and numbered by hand. They are housed in two original lantern slide plate boxes labeled "Carbutt's Gelatino-Albumen Plates Made on Thin Crystal Glass for Lantern Slides[.] Manufactured by The Carbutt Dry Plate and Film Co. Wayne Junction, Philadelphia[.] Complete instructions for Making Transparencies with Each Package." The titles are: "2001 The Wawona - Mariposa Grove - Cal," "2002 The Wawona Mariposa Grove Cal," "2003 The Sentinels Mariposa Grove - Cal," "3291 The Wawona Mariposa Grove - Calif.," "3292 The Faithful Couple Mariposa Grove, Cal.," "3294 General Grant Mariposa Grove Cal," "3297 The Rutherford Mariposa Grove Cal.," "3303 Fallen Monarch with Troop "F" Mariposa Grove Cal," "3307 The Fallen Monarch - Mariposa Grove - Cal," "3309 Base of the Haverford - Mariposa Grove - Cal.," "3315 Bachelor & Three Graces Mariposa Grove - Cal.," and "3327 Study in Upper Grove - Mariposa Grove - Cal."
