First edition. Collects seven short stories with Irish settings, three of them supernatural: "The First Comer," "The Red Woolen Necktie" and "Her Last Wishes." The other four stories are: "In the Kingdom of Kerry," "Old Lady Ann," "Tim Brady's Boots" and Jack Straw's Castle." Not in Wolff, who had seventeen other titles by her, commenting, "Most of her novels deal either with India or Ireland. She avoids social and political issues and concentrates on her (mostly upper-class) personages. She is always entertaining." Wilson, Shadows in the Attic, p. 161. Loeber and Loeber C432.
