(#170632) STRANGE PAGES FROM FAMILY PAPERS. Dyer, Thiselton.

STRANGE PAGES FROM FAMILY PAPERS. London: Sampson Low, Marston & Company Limited, 1895. Octavo, pp. [i-v] vi [vii-viii] [1] 2-319 [320: blank], eight inserted plates with illustrations by R. Hope, original burgundy bevel-edged cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold and blind, blue coated endpapers. First edition. Fictionalized "true" accounts, all sketchy, some criminous and supernatural; family skeletons in the closet, fatal curses, screaming skulls, indelible blood stains, curious secrets, weird possessions, Devil compacts, fatal passion, and more, similar to Elliott O'Donnell's collections. A little drier than the work of Catherine Crowe in THE NIGHT SIDE OF NATURE. Hubin (1994), p. 256. Owner's name stamped on the half title page. Cloth worn at spine ends, corner tips, and along outer joints, several small spots to rear cover, some foxing to first and last few leaves and frontispiece, a very good copy. A very scarce book. (#170632).
