(#170706) BEYOND THE END: THE STORY OF A GHOST'S YEAR. Clarence Boutelle.

BEYOND THE END: THE STORY OF A GHOST'S YEAR. New York: The F. M. Lupton Publishing Company, n.d. [1892]. Octavo, pp. [1-2] 3-208, original decorated brown cloth, front panel stamped in dark brown, spine panel stamped in dark brown and gold. First edition? A novel in the form of diary entries over the course of a year (1888) made by a dead man. Otherwise, this is basically a detective story. It appears that Lupton first brought this title out as part of a subscription series of paperbacks, which would explain its absence from Wright. This Lupton hardcover is part of their "Stratford Edition" series. Bleiler, Reginald and Hubin all cite this Lupton edition (and the Library of Congress holds a copy with the Lupton imprint). However, according to the OSU's Charvat Collection database, this book was first published in New York in 1892 by the Phoenix Publishing Company (UCLA also has a copy with the Phoenix imprint). Bleiler (1978), p. 28. Reginald 01676. Hubin (1994), p. 89. Printed on pulpy paper stock so text block is darkened, crack between title leaf and first leaf of text and between gathering 8 and 9, text block shaken, a reading copy with clean binding. (#170706).
