Noyes was well-regarded in his day as a poet and playwright. This, with ten stories, is one of the author's two collections of material with fantastic motifs (the other is THE HIDDEN PLAYER). He also wrote a post-catastrophe romance, THE LAST MAN (a.k.a. NO OTHER MAN). "A Tennysonian post-Romantic, and later a convert to Roman Catholicism, [he] became deeply unfashionable in the era of T.
