(#171592) THE CHRIST OF TORO AND OTHER STORIES. Gabriela Cunninghame Graham.

THE CHRIST OF TORO AND OTHER STORIES. London: Eveleigh Nash, 1908. Octavo, pp. i-vi [vii-ix] [x] xi [xii] [1] 2-275 [276: printer's imprint], original green cloth, front panel stamped in black, spine in gold, rear panel with publisher's monogram in black, bottom edge untrimmed. First edition. Posthumous collection of translations, fiction and nonfiction edited and introduced by her husband, R. B. Cunninghame Graham. "Gabrielle, known as Gabriela, born in Chile of a French father and a Spanish mother, was translator and author of some mystical works." - Kemp, Mitchell and Trotter, Edwardian Fiction, p. 159. These stories are pervaded with a mystical atmosphere, and some are distinctly supernatural, though in a pious rather than horrific vein. Not in Bleiler (1948; 1978) or Reginald (1979; 1992) or Day, Supplemental Checklist of Fantastic Literature. Rubber-stamps of Brunskill's Circulating Library on the front endpapers (no other library markings), some scattered foxing to page edges, free endpapers just a bit darkened, a very good copy with a bright, clean binding. An uncommon book. (#171592).
