TAKE THE GREAT BURLINGTON ROUTE [caption title]. Albumen print. N.p. Isaiah W. Taber, n.d. [Circa early 1880s? Probably after 1879.]. Albumen print, 13.x9 cm (5 3/8 x 3 5/8 inches), on slightly larger gray card stock mount. A trade card with a photographic montage of 25 images of people and places, the central one being the "Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. Grand Passenger Depot at Chicago, T. D. McKay, General Agent." The 17 photographic portraits include agent T. D. McKay and photographer I. W. Taber, as well as ex-President U. S. Grant, other celebrities, and prominent business tycoons, including Claus Spreckles, Leland Stanford, C. P. Huntington and Charles Crocker. There is one image of Yosemite Valley and a photograph of Taber's art gallery in San Francisco. Some of the photograph mounts have Taber imprints. Some of the photographs were taken by Carleton E. Watkins. Despite his success as an artist, Watkins was not successful as a businessman and ended up losing his gallery to his creditor J. J. Cook. Cook and photographer Isaiah Taber took over the Watkins' gallery and rights to reproduce his photographs. Quarter inch repair at top edge of image. (#172895).
