[1889]. 24 joined panels folded accordion style into cloth folder measuring 19x16.2 cm. First edition, first printing. Label affixed to inside back cover reads: "Photographed and published by F. Jay Haynes Fargo, D. T. Branch Studio, Yellowstone Park." Imprint on first panel reads: "Published and Copyrighted, 1889, by F. Jay Haynes, Fargo, Dakota. Phot. Im. Louis Glaser, Leipzig and New York, 115 Worth St." Frank Jay Haynes (1853-1921), known as F. Jay or the Professor to almost all who knew him, played a major role in documenting through photographs the settlement and early history of the great Northwest. He became both the official photographer of the Northern Pacific Railway and of Yellowstone National Park as well as operating early transportation concessions in the park. In 1889 Haynes moved his studio from Fargo, to Saint Paul, Minnesota, and later printings of this souvenir album have the Saint Paul address. A fine copy. (#179127).
