First U.S. edition? Collects "A Drama in Mid-Air" (a.k.a. "A Drama in the Air"), "Dr. Ox's Hobby" (a.k.a. "Dr. Ox's Experiment"), "Master Zachary" (a.k.a. "Master Zacharius") and "A Winter Among the Ice-Fields (a.k.a. "A Winter Amid the Ice") by Verne, and "Fortieth French Ascent of Mont Blanc" by Paul Verne. Apparently the only edition with English translation by A. L. Alger. This edition, mostly likely unauthorized, may have preceded the "authorized" 1874 Osgood edition published as DR. OX'S EXPERIMENT AND OTHER STORIES. The Gill edition was advertised as "now ready" on 11 July 1874. The Osgood edition, with contents translated by George M. Towle, was published in late June or early July 1874. Both American editions preceded Sampson Low's British edition which was published in November 1874.
