Previously uncollected early articles and sketches first published in literary papers in Cincinnati (the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER and the CINCINNATI COMMERCIAL) and New Orleans (the DAILY CITY ITEM and the TIMES-DEMOCRAT) between 1872 and 1886 during Hearn's American days, and three other publications for which he wrote in the 1880s.
