This edition, published in October 1888, was preceded by a version printed as the "Summer Number" of the Illustrated London News, published about 23 June 1888, and by the authorized U.S. Harper & Brothers edition published in June 1888 (listed Publishers Weekly 23 June 1888) and several U.S. pirated editions.
