"WHEN HALF-GODS GO" [short story]. TYPED MANUSCRIPT (TMs). 15 leaves, plus cover sheet, ribbon copy. Setting copy of "When Half-Gods Go," for its first publication in THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION (May 1953). First collected in Anderson's short story collection THE GODS LAUGHED (Tor 1982). Includes typewritten corrections and considerable editorial revisions, all most likely by editor Anthony Boucher, not Anderson. Signed presentation inscription by ANTHONY BOUCHER "For Kent Kimes" on cover sheet. "Although he is perhaps sf's most prolific writer of any consistent quality, Anderson began quite slowly, starting to publish sf with "Tomorrow's Children," with F. N. Waldrop, for ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION in 1947, but not publishing with any frequency until about 1950... In 1953 Anderson seemed to come afire: in addition to 19 stories, he published magazine versions of BRAIN WAVE..., THREE HEARTS AND THREE LIONS... and WAR OF TWO WORLDS..." - Clute and Nicholls, The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (1993), p. 31. Minor edge creases to several leaves, two small tape stains at top edge of cover sheet, else fine. (#96319).
